Riftbound: League of Legends Trading Card Game is launching a particularly important expansion in 2027. Riftbound Set 6: Legacy releases on January 29, 2027 and is intended to further develop the game in several areas: with a stronger Draft focus, a revised booster structure, updated card text, and Champions who embody the spirit of their regions of Runeterra.
Legacy bears the motto Bear the Banner. Forge Your Legacy. At its center is the connection between a Champion and the region they represent. Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover and Zaun, the Freljord, and Bilgewater are intended to make their presence felt throughout the set through Champions, mechanics, and playstyles.

What is Riftbound Set 6: Legacy?
Riftbound: Legacy is the sixth main set of the League of Legends Trading Card Game. Instead of focusing solely on a single event or a small group of Champions, the expansion places several major regions of Runeterra at its center.
When revealing their own Legend, it should become even clearer which region and gameplay concept a Deck represents. Riot has confirmed that Demacia, Noxus, Ionia, Piltover and Zaun, the Freljord, and Bilgewater will play an important role in the cards and mechanics of the set.
This should make Legacy particularly interesting for Players who want to align their Decks closely with regions, Champions, and thematic strategies.
Riftbound Legacy Release and Pre-Rift
The official Release of Riftbound Set 6: Legacy is January 29, 2027. The Pre-Rift events will already take place from January 22 to 28, 2027.

With a total of 346 cards, Legacy will be a particularly large Riftbound set. 93 of them have been announced as Showcase versions, which should also make the expansion interesting for Collectors.

Eight new Legends have officially been announced for Set 6 so far:
- Ashe
- Garen
- Heimerdinger
- Illaoi
- Karma
- Lux
- Tryndamere
- Vladimir
Four more Legends are set to be added, but have not yet been revealed. The selection already shows how broad Legacy's lineup is. Ashe and Tryndamere represent the Freljord, Garen and Lux Demacia, Vladimir Noxus, Karma Ionia, Heimerdinger Piltover and Zaun, and Illaoi Bilgewater.
The first major card previews have been announced for the Convergence Fest in December 2026. Further reveals are expected to follow in January 2027.
New Booster structure starting with Riftbound Legacy
With Legacy, Riot is changing the composition of Riftbound Boosters. Starting with Set 6, one existing Common slot will be replaced by a dedicated slot for a Legend or a Battlefield. This new slot is expected to contain a Legend roughly half the time and a Battlefield the other half.
As a result, Legacy Boosters will contain six instead of seven Common cards in the future. Legends will remain readily available, but will no longer occupy one of the slots where Players would normally hope to find rarer cards.
Showcase versions of Legends and Battlefields can still appear in the designated Overnumbered slots. The change therefore mainly affects the normal Booster structure and is intended to make opening packs more appealing.
Legacy is being developed specifically for Draft
Riftbound could already be drafted with previous sets. According to Riot, however, Legacy is the first expansion developed from the outset with a particularly strong focus on this format.
These include mechanics and synergies between Champions that share a color. There will also be so-called Signpost cards at lower rarity levels. During a Draft, these cards make it clearer which color combinations and strategies are supported.
The Rune Kits for stores are also being expanded. A new Minion unit card is intended to be freely available like Runes and help Draft players build a complete Deck if they are still missing units after the Draft.
For Players who enjoy Limited or want to try Riftbound without an existing Constructed Deck, Legacy could become one of the most interesting sets since the TCG launched.
Revised card texts starting with Set 6
Legacy brings not only new cards but also changes to how rules text is presented. Targets should be easier to identify in the future through a dedicated gray background. For triggered abilities, an arrow will separate the condition more clearly from the actual effect.
Some terms will also be standardized. If an effect creates a token, the clearer word Create will be used in the future. Phrases such as “When you play me” will be replaced with “When I enter.”
These adjustments do not change the fundamental gameplay, but they are intended to reduce misunderstandings and make Riftbound easier to read.
League Classic artwork in Riftbound Legacy
A crossover with League Classic has also been announced for collectors. Legacy is set to include cards with artwork inspired by the look of League of Legends during its early years.
It has not yet been announced how many cards will receive this treatment or in which rarities they will appear. However, the combination of modern Riftbound cards and classic League visuals is likely to be particularly interesting for longtime fans.
Which products are being released for Riftbound Legacy?

The four Champion decks offer direct entry points built around Tryndamere, Ashe, Lux, and Garen. Booster packs and Booster displays are aimed at collectors, deck builders, and draft groups. The Vault Bundle is likely to once again be a bundled product for fans and collectors, but its exact contents have not yet been announced.
There are currently no specific contents available for the Pre-Rift Kits either. Further product details are likely to follow closer to the start of the preview season.
Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition follows in February 2027
Following the Release of Legacy, Riftbound: Proving Grounds, 2nd Edition will also be released on February 19, 2027. The new beginner box contains four Champion decks featuring Heimerdinger, Karma, Vladimir, and Illaoi.
The contents include four Champion decks, four oversized battlefields, four paper playmats, four Chibi point counters, and a rulebook. The box is not expected to contain exclusive playing cards. All included cards should also be available in regular boosters.
Versions in English, Chinese, French, and Korean have been officially confirmed. A German edition has not yet been announced.
Who is Riftbound Legacy interesting for?
For Draft players, Legacy is especially exciting because Set 6 was developed specifically for Limited for the first time. Signpost cards, synergies between Champions, and the new booster structure are intended to improve the Draft experience.
For Constructed players, the set introduces numerous new Legends and regional strategies. Champions such as Ashe, Garen, Lux, Karma, and Vladimir in particular could enable new deck ideas.
For beginners, four Champion decks and a new Proving-Grounds box shortly after the set release will be available.
For collectors, the 93 Showcase cards and the announced League-Classic artwork are the most important highlights known so far.
