Imagine Elsa and Mickey Mouse fighting side by side against Captain Hook – not in a movie, but on your gaming table. Welcome to the world of Disney Lorcana, the trading card game from Ravensburger that combines Disney magic and strategic gameplay on lovingly designed cards.
What is Disney Lorcana?
Disney Lorcana is a so-called Trading Card Game (TCG for short) – a trading card game, similar to Pokémon or Magic: The Gathering. The only difference is that your favorite Disney characters take center stage! The game was developed by Ravensburger, and it’s the first time Disney has launched its own trading card game on a large scale.
What’s the game about?
In the game, you’re an Illumineer – a kind of wizard with a very, very large pen. Your task? Use magical ink to summon Disney characters, collect lore points, and try to outplay your opponent – but please, do it in style.
Whether Simba, Aladdin or Ariel in her glittering form – you decide who takes center stage in your Deck. Each character has special abilities, stats, and illustrations that invite you to dream.
How does the game work?
Don’t worry: You don’t have to dig up a rulebook from Atlantis. The basic principle is simple:
- You play cards by spending ink (a type of mana).
- Your characters collect lore points or challenge others to a duel.
- The first player to collect a certain number of points wins!
Sounds simple? It is - but with enough depth to keep it from getting boring.
Who is Lorcana for?
Honestly: For everyone who loves Disney. Whether you grew up with The Lion King, Robin Hood, or just can’t resist Mickey Mouse or Stitch - Lorcana is for you. And it’s perfect for newcomers to the TCG hobby. You don’t need any prior knowledge, just a love of the game and a healthy dose of collecting enthusiasm.
What products are available?
There’s a whole range of great products for launch (and beyond) - for Players, Collectors, and everyone in between:
- Starter decks: Perfect for getting started - with 60 cards, a rulebook, and everything you need.
- Booster packs: Contain random cards - ideal for collecting and deck building.
- Illumineer’s Trove: The deluxe experience for fans - with boosters, Accessories, and a box.
- Accessories: Sleeves, playmats, Binders - all naturally in Disney designs!
What makes Disney Lorcana special?
It’s simple: heart, magic, and collecting fun. Ravensburger has managed to combine the atmosphere of the Disney world with a modern TCG. The cards are beautifully crafted, and every illustration is a work of art in its own right. And for Collectors, there are Foil versions, alternative artwork, and even rare cards with real display-case potential.
And best of all: It’s simply fun!
You can play with friends, trade cards, or simply collect your favorite characters in cool designs. Lorcana is more than just a game - it’s a Disney experience in card form.
The game world grows with every set
Since the first set, Lorcana has continued to evolve. Each new expansion brings fresh cards, new mechanics, and additional characters from the Disney universe. Whether it’s “Reign of Jafar”, “Himmelsleuchten“, "Archazias Insel" or future sets – each release brings new opportunities for Deck building, strategy, and collecting fun.
These are the symbols for the Disney Lorcana rarity levels on the cards:
Common
Uncommon
Rare
Super rare
Legendary
Enchanted
Tip: You can easily identify the Rarity in Disney Lorcana by the shape of the symbol on the card – the more edges, the rarer the card.
Example: Common cards have a gray circular symbol, with no corners. You can recognize rare cards by the golden triangle with three sides. And the especially sought-after “Enchanted cards” feature a rainbow-colored hexagon – with six sides and maximum collectible value.
Collectible Value & Rarities: More Than Just Playing cards
For many Players, Lorcana is more than a game – it’s also a collectible. Rare cards such as Enchanted Rares or alternative artwork are especially sought-after. With high-quality Foil versions, limited editions, and exclusive Promo cards, Lorcana is also appealing to Collectors looking for potential value appreciation.
Enchanted cards currently sell for several hundred euros in some cases. The most expensive is currently the Enchanted Elsa card, shown here in the middle.
What makes the Enchanted cards in Disney Lorcana so special?
The first Lorcana set - Chapter 1 - contains twelve so-called "Enchanted cards" in total: two for each of the six ink colors. Besides their eye-catching, rainbow-colored rarity symbol, you can also identify them by their card numbers: These range from 205 to 216, deliberately exceeding the regular set numbering, which ends at 204.
The Enchanted cards also stand out visually: Unlike regular cards, they have a semi-transparent white text box that lets the artwork underneath show through. This gives them a particularly elegant look and makes them reminiscent of Full Art cards from other TCGs like Pokémon.
Good to know: The game stats and abilities of these cards are identical to those of the regular versions - their appeal lies solely in their collectible value and impressive design. But that's exactly what makes them so sought-after: Enchanted cards are extremely rare, can only be found in boosters with luck, and sometimes fetch prices of several hundred euros on the secondary market. Currently, the Enchanted Elsa is considered the most expensive and sought-after card
Tournaments & Community: Together, Not Against Each Other
More and more TCG shops - including cardcosmos - regularly host Lorcana events in their store. Whether it's a beginner tournament or a competitive Draft event, the community is growing quickly. It's welcoming, friendly, and ideal for anyone who wants to play and trade together. Many Players appreciate exactly that: a relaxed atmosphere where you can learn from one another.
Lorcana as an introduction to the TCG hobby
Disney Lorcana is especially well suited as an introduction to the world of Trading Card Games. The rules are easy to understand, the cards are high quality, and the theme is familiar. At the same time, the game offers enough depth to keep you engaged over the long term. Ideal for families, siblings, or groups of friends who want to get started together.
What you need to get started
For getting started, the official Starter decks are recommended - they contain everything you need: a ready-to-play Deck, game rules, and a short guide to setting up the game. If you want to dive right in, you can build and customize your own Deck with Booster packs and Accessories (such as Card Sleeves or playmats).
Where can you buy Disney Lorcana?
Lorcana products are available at well-stocked specialty stores and online shops. Be sure to buy from reputable retailers - such as cardcosmos.de - to ensure you receive authentic, sealed products. It's especially worthwhile to order early for limited-edition products or highly sought-after sets.
